Privacy Policy
Effective October 9, 2026
AirLab ("the app") is published by Anthony Colasante ("we", "us"). AirLab is a paper-airplane science app built for kids and families. We designed it to collect as little information as possible and to keep most of it on your device.
Using AirLab without an account
You can use every learning feature without an account. In this mode, everything you create stays on your device, and we receive nothing. That includes:
- pilot nicknames, avatars and experience levels;
- flight measurements, notes, videos and tracking data;
- experiments, custom aircraft designs and photos;
- progress.
Pilot profiles use a nickname and an icon. We do not ask for a child's real name, birthday or photo.
Optional parent account
A parent or guardian can create an account in the app's Parent zone, which is protected by a grown-ups-only question. The account syncs data between the family's devices. If you create one, we store:
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address and a securely hashed password, or the anonymous identifier provided by Sign in with Apple | To sign you in |
| Pilot profiles (nickname, icon, experience level) | To sync pilots between your devices |
| Flight records (times, distances, flight paths, notes, conditions), experiments, custom aircraft names and descriptions, and progress (XP, achievements, missions) | To sync and back up your work |
| Signed purchase records from Apple | To unlock what you bought on all your devices |
Flight videos and design photos are never uploaded. They stay on the device where they were taken.
Purchases
Apple processes all payments. We never see your payment details. When you buy something, Apple gives the app a signed record of the purchase. If you are signed in, we keep that record to unlock content on your devices.
Camera
AirLab asks for camera access only when you record a flight. Videos are recorded without sound, analyzed on the device, and stored only on the device. You can delete them at any time under Profile › Videos & storage.
What we don't do
- We don't show ads or use advertising identifiers.
- We don't use analytics or tracking tools, and the app contains no third-party SDKs.
- We don't sell or rent personal information, or share it for advertising.
- We don't collect location, contacts, microphone audio, or health data.
- There is no chat, messaging or public profile.
Who processes data for us
We share account data only with providers that help us run AirLab, and only to provide the service:
- our server hosting provider;
- Apple, for Sign in with Apple and In-App Purchases.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
Children's privacy
AirLab is designed for children to use with a parent or guardian. Without an account, we collect no personal information from children. Only an adult can create an account, and account features, purchases and data controls sit behind a parental gate. A parent or guardian can at any time:
- review the data in their account, using Parent zone › Export my data;
- delete a pilot and all of that pilot's data;
- delete the whole account and all of its data from our servers, using Parent zone › Delete account;
- refuse further collection, by deleting the account or simply not signing in.
You can also email us to make any of these requests.
Keeping and deleting data
- Account data is kept until you delete it or delete the account.
- Deleting the account removes its data from our live systems right away. Encrypted backups are kept for up to 14 days and then deleted.
- Sign-in tokens expire automatically.
- Data on your device stays until you delete it in the app or delete the app.
Security
- Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
- Passwords are stored only as secure hashes.
- Sign-in tokens on your device are kept in the iOS Keychain.
- Our databases are not reachable from the internet.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. That includes any new feature that would collect new kinds of information. If a change affects children's information, we will ask for a parent's consent where the law requires it.
